NiMH Battery Pack

NiMH Battery Packs = high power, longer lasting, more environmentally friendly.

Batteries can be an essential part of society today, as many of the most popular devices that people use will run on these little units of portable power. Most people do not give a thought to what these batteries are actually made out of, however.

There is quite a difference, though, and this can affect not only the performance of the battery, but also the environmental impact of the battery.

The most popular type of battery is nickel-cadmium batteries, which get one use and are then disposed.  These batteries are not very efficient and can often become rather costly, with the need to replace them relatively often. 

Additionally, these batteries will lose their charge over time, making them much less effective than they originally began.  Nickel-cadmium batteries also are rather harmful to the environment, as the element of cadmium is toxic and can do harm as it is being mined from the earth.

Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, however, are a much better choice when it comes to the usage of battery power.  More commonly known as a NIMH battery pack, these batteries are rechargeable and can be used over and over again before they begin to lose their potential and need discarded. 

NiMH battery packs are also much more environmentally friendly.  As stated before, the cadmium used in the more traditional batteries is toxic to the environment and mining it from the earth can actually cause some damage.

Using nickel-metal hydride (NiMH battery packs), however, doesn’t require mining of the toxic cadmium, therefore there is no leaking into the environment.  Also, as the NiMH battery pack is rechargeable, the battery casings will not need to be thrown away as often, allowing for reuse.  This helps to stem the waste being produced.

NiMH battery packs costs around the same amount as a traditional pack of nickel-cadmium batteries, although you will need to spend a few dollars on the cost of a battery charger for the NiMH battery packs. The NiMH battery charger cost will greatly save future money, however, as the cost of constantly buying nickel-cadmium batteries can quickly add up.  NiMH battery packs are not only an environmentally cleaner option to use, but will save great money in the long run as well!
